The Best Prime Rib Yet
Prime Rib is one of my family’s favorite treats to enjoy during the holiday season. I however realized that I have yet to ever make one myself, so I enlisted my brother (aka My Work Bestie), to show me step by step. Now that I have a better idea of how to make the perfect roast I am going to share the secrets with you.
We prefer to cradle our Prime Rib so in order to do that there is some butchering involved. I will give you a step by step on how to properly cut your roast to guarantee the best flavor.
Ingredients:
Bone in Prime Rib (we used a 16.35 lb roast)
6 tablespoons of Olive Oil
10 Garlic Cloves finely chopped (to taste)
1 cup Santa Maria Seasoning
Cooking oil spray
Vegetables (of your choosing)
Step one:
You first want to start your cut as close to the bone as possible. You will continue to cut along the outline of the bone.
Step two:
Once you have butchered across the bone start to cut the bone layer away from the roast.
Step three:
After you have cut the bones from the roast place the bones to the side.
Step four:
Drizzle olive oil over the roast on both sides and the piece of bones you just removed.
Step five:
Smoother the crushed garlic into a thick layer on both sides of the roast and bones.
Step six:
Our favorite seasoning is Santa Maria Seasoning (available downtown at BBQ Pros). Generously coat the roast and bones (both sides) with the seasoning.
*HUGE shout out to Patti at Una Bella Salon for making my nails not look like a butchers!*
Step seven:
After seasoning the roast and bone you will need to tie them back together. Using butcher string tie the bones back onto the roast. And then place into a deep pan.
Step eight:
Pat the garlic and seasoning that fell off the roast onto the roast.
Step nine:
Spray the roast (on both sides) with oil.
Step ten:
Place the Prime Rib bone down into pre heated oven on 450 degrees (we used our convection oven) for 30 minutes.
*Make sure your oven is hot before placing roast in the oven.
Step 11:
Rotate the Prime Rib so the bones are now facing up for another 30 minutes.
Step 12:
Flip the roast so the bones are now facing down again. Add the vegetables of your choosing to the pan. Depending on your own personal taste you can add a half of a can of beer to the pan at this time. Turn the oven down to 325 degrees to finish cooking.
Step 13:
Periodically use a baster to baste the remaining liquids over the roast and let cook until the roast reaches 120 degrees for Medium Rare. *Please note cooking time will vary depending on your oven and size of the roast.
Step 14:
Remove the Prime Rib from the over and let sit for 15 minutes.
Step 15:
Cut and enjoy!
Happy Holidays from our family to yours.
